Semilla [NL]

This seed/semilla marks the beginning of something that grows in time, like an idea, like a movement. Semilla is a small artifact, a capsule containing a speaker and an mp3 player. It is meant to be buried in the ground in a ritual where the semilla is offered to the Earth as a symbolic act of resonance and mutual care. From the underground a subtle sound piece will emerge, this piece is composed with the resonant frequency of our planet. It is a resonant object that protects the place where it is buried as it produces noise and unwanted vibrations that render the ground unsoundable for geophones; extractive telluric sensors used by oil and gas companies to find new places for extraction. This way the semilla is an element of active protection. It is an element of resonance and mutual care.

This Semilla was buried at Het HEM, Amsterdam for the Sonic Acts Biennial 2022, as part of the Inner Ear(th) exhibition, curated by Maud Seuntjens.

Thanks to the collaboration between Sonic Acts and Het HEM, Semilla is part of the Het HEM Collection <3

SEMILLA, ENTIERRO

An invitation to a ritual of sowing and offering: a collective moment that initiates the sound installation Semilla that will be buried underground. The sonic seed of Semilla is sowed as an offering to the Earth and a symbolic act of protection and reciprocity. The ritual activates a resonant movement that like a seed can grow in time. During the burial, the audience is invited to participate by helping to cover and plant the work. Once Semilla is buried, its position is marked by a cross on the ground – made of solar and reflective panels – where people can lie down and listen to the sounds it emanates from inside the Earth. Join the artist on this collective sound ritual as an opening act of the evening program. We will meet at 17:30 at the meeting point in the ‘Huiskamer’ and walk together to the burial place outdoors next to Het HEM. Afterward the sound installation Semilla will be open to the public.
